COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Ryan, Councilman McDonald, Councilwoman Schubert,
and Councilman von Oven.
COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT: None.
STAFF PRESENT: Laurie Hokkanen, City Manager.
PUBLIC PRESENT:

Mayor Ryan called the Special Meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
CITY COUNCIL INTERVIEWS
The City Council interviewed Josh Kimber from 5:56 p.m. to 6:18 p.m., Luke Bame from 6:25 p.m. to
6:55 p.m., and Kelsey Alto from 6:58 p.m. to 7:19 p.m. Each candidate was asked the following
questions:
• Please share an opening statement of five minutes or so that recaps your application and expresses
your interest in the position
• City Councilmembers sometimes take positions that their friends and neighbors disagree with. How
have you prepared yourself for this aspect of the role?
• If you were to launch a public election campaign tomorrow for this office, what would be your #1
platform pillar? Did you consider running for City Council in this last election? Why or why not?
• Through our Strategic Plan, the City Council is dedicated to investing in the community, its
infrastructure and amenities in a fiscally responsible manner. How would you balance these two
goals?
• Why should we appoint YOU to the Chanhassen City Council?
The City Council discussed candidates, including Mark Randall who was interviewed by Mayor Elise
Ryan and Councilmember Haley Schubert virtually on Monday, January 16, with the recording shared
with Councilmember McDonald and Councilmember von Oven prior to the meeting. The City Council
discussed candidates for about forty minutes.
Councilwoman Schubert moved, Councilman von Oven seconded to appoint Josh Kimber to the
City Council vacancy for a term to expire on December 31, 2024. All voted in favor and the motion
carried unanimously with a vote of 4 to 0.

ADJOURNMENT
Councilwoman Schubert moved, Councilman McDonald seconded to adjourn the meeting. All
voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 4 to 0. The Special City Council
meeting was adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
