Emerald Harlow “Bud” Bomstad, age 95, of Chaska, moved on to his heavenly home on Thurdsay,
February 23, 2017, at Auburn Manor Care Center, Chaska, to join his beloved wife Norva.
A private family gathering was held at the Bertas Funeral Home and Auburn Manor in Chaska. A private
inurnment will be held at a later date.
Bud was born April 28, 1921 in Lake Lillian, MN, to Edgar and Hilda (Anderstrom) Bomstad, the oldest of
�ve children. On March 2, 1946, Bud married Norva Carley in Willmar, MN. They had seven children. Bud
and Norva farmed in Atwater, MN, for 20 years, 1947-1967, before moving to Chaska. He helped build the
Chaska High School and was employed for Chaska Schools for 30 years as an engineer. He and Norva

lived on a hobby farm from 1967 – 2004 in Chaska. He loved �shing, making lefsa and donuts, gardening,
farm animals and enjoyed his trips to Colorado. He also enjoyed studying his family heritage from
Bomstad, Norway. His great-great grandfather, Rev. J.A.J. Bomstad was the �rst settler to homestead Lake
Lillian, MN, in 1862.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norva, son, Harlow, and grandson, Tommy.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Coreen) Bomstad, Karen (Gerry) Koch, Debra (James) Frey,
Sharesa (Mike) Fetrow, Cindy (Roger) Bigaouette, Tami (Walter) Sweeney; daughter-in-law, Carolyn (Don)
Rens; 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; brothers, Algene (Adeline) Bomstad and Arlie (Janet)
Bomstad; nieces and nephews.
