Roger Smallbeck - 15t Assistant Chief Randy Wahl - 2nd Assistant Chief Mark Littfin- Fire Marshal DATE: August 17, 2007 SUBJ: Monthly City Council update Fire Department Overview: Staffing is at 44 active firefighters as of August 15,2007; allocation is 45 PTEs We received our new engine on august 3rd and we are now completing training in order to place the apparatus in service. Fire Training: This month's training consisted of aerial and search and rescue training at the West Metro Training Facility and Company Function training. Fire Marshal: No major fires to report. The Fire Department responded to 18 calls over a 24 hour period during the recent storms. We responded to 29 calls for the week of August 6th through the 12th. We are at 356 calls to date, 23 ahead of last year. Most of the calls during the storm were weather related including lightning strikes, fire alarms and power lines down from falling tree branches. Fortunately there was no major fire damage or property damage. Fire Inspections: The following buildings are at various stages of construction; The Chanhassen High School, Dell Professional Building, Life Time Fitness Office #1 and #2, MAMAC Properties, Autobahn Motorplex, Southwest Village Parking Ramp, Sign Source, Heartland America warehouse expansion, Outset Todd Gerhardt August 17, 2007 Page 2 Companies on Galpin Court and Town and Country Town homes and apartment homes. We have conducted inspections at Bluff Creek and Chanhassen Elementary Schools. The other Chanhassen schools will be completed in the next few weeks. Fire Prevention: National Night Out was a huge success. The Fire Department went out with three trucks visiting three neighborhoods. The Fire Department will also be assisting with the Miracles of Mitch Marathon. Ed Coppersmith and I have started the preparation and planning for our annual Fire Department Open House as well as fire prevention activities with our four elementary schools.
