Approve Street Name Change of Great Plains Boulevard (Old 101) from
Lake Susan Drive North to Future Cul-de-Sac to Waters Edge Drive
Project No. 04-06 (Simple Majority Vote Required)
REQUESTED ACTION
Approve Street Name Change of Great Plains Boulevard (old 101) from Lake Susan
Drive north to future Cul-de-sac to Waters Edge Drive.
BACKGROUND
The 212/312 project included moving and realigning 101 north of Lake Susan
Drive. With the realignment of 101, the old section of 101 north of Lake Susan
Drive will be turned back to the City as a local street. Since 101 current mailing
addresses is Great Plains Boulevard, the turned back section of the roadway
should be renamed since it is not contiguous with 101 any longer.
Staff has asked residents along old 101 for ideas on what the new name should be.
The residents created a list of preferred for staff to review. The fire department
and other city staff have reviewed the list for conflicts with existing street names.
Based on this review and the street name ideas supplied by the residents, the
preferred street name is Waters Edge Drive. Staff has discussed this name with
the residents and most residents appear to be in support of the name.
RECOMMENDA TION
Staff recommends changing the street Name of Great Plains Boulevard (old 10 1) north of
Lake Susan Drive to the future Cul-de-sac to Waters Edge Drive.
