1986 11 03BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS MINUTES NOVEMBER 3, 1986 CALL TO ORDER Chairman Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Willard Johnson, Carol Watson and Dale Geving. STAFF PRESENT Jo Ann Olsen, Assistant City Planner and Todd Gerhardt, Planning Intern Rear Yard Setback Variance Request to Construct a Single Family Home, Michael Feriancek Public Present Michael Feriancek Bruce Sherman Nadeen Culvert applicant Gerhardt presented the background and the analysis of the case and stated that the Board of Adjustments and Appeals should deny the variance request because there is adequate buildable area for a single family residence to meet all of the required setbacks at the proposed location. He stated that it is the design of the proposed residence that is making the variance necessary. Geving asked if any one from the public was opposed to the varinace request. Nadeen Culvert said that too many variances are granted in Carver Beach. Bruce Sherman was also opposed to the variance because of the location of the hc~e to his lot on the west, which he plans on building in the future. Geving asked if the applicant called the city to get the setback requirements prior to the drawing of his plans for the proposed home. Feriancek replied that he first selected the type of home which he wanted and then he picked the lot location. He stated that the design of the home is what he wants to live in and if he cannot build it on the lot, he will find another lot somewhere else. Motion by Geving, seconded by Watson to deny Variance Request ~86-16 for a 6 foot rear yard setback to the required 30 foot setback. All voted in favor and the motion carried. Approval Of Minutes Motion by Geving, seconded by Watson, to approve the minutes of August 4, 1986 as presented. All voted in favor and the motion carried.
