Ordinance 009VILLAGE OF CHANHASSEN CARVER COUNTY, MINNESOTA ORDINANCE NO. AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE DISCHARGE OF FIREARMS WITHIN THE VILLAGE OF CHANHASSEN, CARVER COUNTY, MINNESOTA, AND FOR THE PROMOTION OF SAFETY AND GENERAL WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE. THE VILLAGE COUNCIL COUNCIL OF CHANHASSEN ORDAINS: Section 1. Except as hereinafter provided, it shall be unlawful to fire or discharge any gun, pistol, or other firearm or weapon within the Village of Chanhassen, Carver County, Minnesota. Section 2. Persons desiring to fire or discharge any gun, pistol, or other firearm or weapon within the Village of Chanhassen shall first secure a 0 permit to do so from the Village Council. Section 3. Application for such permits shall be in writing addressed to the Council, and shall state the purpose for requesting such permit, the period for which such permit is desired, the type of gun, rifle, pistol, air rifle or B -B gun to be fired, and such other information as may be deemed necessary by the Council to pass upon such application. Such permit shall be in writing and shall be issued by and at the discretion of the Council, and permit shall be usable only by the person to whom issued. Section 4, Subdivision 1. No person under the age of sixteen (16) shall • fire off or discharge any gun, pistol, or otYe r firearm or weapon within the Village of Chanhassen. Subdivision 2. It shall be in violation of this ordinance for a parent or guardian of any person under the age of sixteen (16) to knowingly permit any such person to discharge any weapon described in Section 4, Subdivision 1, within the Village of Chanhassen. Section 5. Shooting by an organized Gun Club is prohibited within the Village; provided, however, the Council may, upon application, issue a permit to an organized Gun Club upon a showing that such shooting by a Gun Club would not be detrimental to the use and enjoyment of the adjoining property. Section 6. Nothing herein shall be construed to prohibit any firing of a gun, pistol or other weapon when in lawful defense of person, property, or family, or in the necessary defense or enforcement of laws. Section 7. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not more than $100.00, or by imprisonment for not more than ninety (90) days.
