The Board of Officers is required to devise forms or mmthvds of
keeping records and shall see that records are kept of all a-
larms of firer fire losses, methods of extinguishment, drills,
hose, apparatus, minor equipment and condition of hydrants.
SECTION 11
Article I. The Chief and Assistant Chief shall be -elected by the member-.
ship of the Department for a one year term. They shall be re-,
movable only for cause aftor hearing before the membership -and
the Village Council. Chief officers shall be elected from the
membership of the Departmentv no two being members of the same
compaany, nor may they retain membership in any oomparry during
their term of office.
Article a. No member of the Department shall be eligible for the appoint-
ment of Chief or Assistant Chief whose entire time, both day.
and night, is not spent within the Village limits and, except
for the initial appointments, has not been a member of the
Department for at least two years.
SECTION III
Article I.
The fire Force shall be divided into Companies* each to con-
sist of not more than twenty (20) members, of which not lass
than ten (10) must be employed in town.
Article 2.
Any member desiring to transfer his membership from one Com-•
pany to another shall present to the Hoard of Fire Officers
•
a certificate in writing, signed by the Foreman or Capta-in of
both Companies, shoring the consent of each Company to the
transfer. Upon receipt of such certificate the Hoard of Fire
Officers shall permit or deny such transfer, their decision

Each of the Companies of the Deportment shall and may choose
from their own number a Foreman or Captain in such manner and
at such time or times as the Hoard of Fire Officers may in its
rules and by-laws for the government of the Department provide
and.prescribe. It shall be the duty of said Companies so often
as any fire shall break out to report immediately upon the a-
larm thereof to their respective fire houses and to convey
their apparatus to the place where the fire shall haappon' un-•
less otherwise directed.by the Chief or other officer who may
be in charge, and upon such direction they shall return their
apparatus, well washed and cleaa.ned$ to their several places
of deposit.

SECTION IV
Article 1.
The Chief shall have the general supervision of the Department
which supervision shall be subject to and not conflict with se
rules and bye-laws for the government and management ofthe Do-,
partmentas may from time to time be adopted by .

Article 2.
Fire Officers as herein provided,
In all cases of fire the Chief or, in his absence, an Assist-
ant, shall have full power and absolute control and command,

and cause the several pieces of apparatus to be worked in the
-- most advantageous manner.
Article 3. Should the Chief and the Assistant Chief be absent from afire..
the.person having charge of the apparatus first arriving at
the_ fire shall assume the duties of the Chief until the arriv-

Article 4* It shall be the duty of the Chief to report quarterly to the
Council of the Village of Chanhassen, the condition of the
various pieces of apparatus and appurtancess the number of
hydrants and the condition of sames the number of fires dur-
Ing the months their location and causes and date of same and
loss occasioned thereby' the number of members in each CamVnLn7
and the total number of active members in the Departments and
resignations and expulsions passed upon by the Board of Fire
Officers.
Article 5. The Chief and his assistant or officers in command at any fire
are hereby vested with full and complete police authoritys and
are hereby authorized and directed to require and secure the
removal of any and all obstructions from in front of and a—
round fire hydrants' and for the purpose are hereby authorized
to call upon the head of any of the municipal departments for
aid and assistance in securing such removal of obstructions.
Article 6. It shall be the duty of the Chief to see that Company officers
have all hose thoroughly washed and dried after use at fires
and drills and that no wet or dirty hose is placed on the ap-
paratus.
j Article 7. It shall be the duty of the Chief to see that Company officers
have all hose on apparatus changed every thirty days if not
otherwi4o used and have water run through it every sixty days.
Article 8. It shall be the duty of the Chief to see that the Company of
Dicers have the fire houses heated during the winter season.
I Article 9. It shall be the duty of the Chief to see that all hose is
tostedannually at a hydrostatic pressure of 250 pounds.
Article 10 It shall be the duty of the Company officer in charge of his
Company at a fire or drill to report to the Chief all fire hy-
drants that are found frozens put of orders leaky or that are
set in such a manner as to make it difficult to connect theret+
IArticle 11 It shall be the duty of the Chief to make a permanent record
i of all reports of defectives inoperative or improperly set
fire hydrants, and he shall submit a report to the Mayor and
Common Council giving the location of the hydrants name of the
maker, with a specification of the troubles.
Article 12 It shall be the duty of the Foreman or Captain of each Company
to keep a permanent record of the fire and drill service of
each member of his company. A copy of this record shall be Sub-
mitted to the Board of Officers at the close of each year.
Article 19 It shall be the duty of the Board of Officers to appoint five
or more drivers for the apparatus= who shall be thoroughly in-
structed in the operation of the apparatus to which they are
assigned.
Article 14 It shall be the duty of the Board of Officers to appoint two
mechanics to each Companys who shall be charged with the duty
of maintaining all the apparatus of the Company in good con-
dition and ready for immediate service.
Article ly No member of any company shall be permitted to tamper with, or
fix, or repair any of the apparatus unless so directed by the

article 2. If the Foreman or Captain of any Company negleots or refuses to
make such report the Board of Fire Officers shall immediately pre- 4
for charges against such delinquent officers in accordance with
the rules and rogulations of said Board of Fire Officers.
ticle 3. All requests for repairs or supplies for the various Companies of
the Department shall be presented to the Board of Fire Officers fo 4
the approval or recommendation of said Board by the Foreman or Cap
tain of such Companies at the time the monthly report mentioned in C
Article (1) of this Section is prosented but in case any rapparatu:

SECTION VI
4.rticlo 1. Any Foreman or Captain„ or the member having charge of any fire '
company$ while on fire duty, who shall refuse or voluntarily ne-
glect to obey or execute any orders from the officer in charge of
any fires shall$ for such offenses be subject to suspension or ex-
pulsion from the department by the Board of Fire Officers in such
manner and upon such hearing the trial as may be prescribed or pro-
vided by the by-laws and rules of the Board of Fire Officers.
rticle 2. Any officer or member of the Department or any Company or Companie: I`
of the -Department who shall refuse or voluntarily neglect to obey
or execute any orders from the officer in charge of any fires or
who shall violate or willfully neglect or refuse to be controlled$
Governed or managed by any of the rules and by-laws of the Board
+1f Fire Officers$ that may be adopted from time to time as herein
provided$ shall be subject to suspension or expulsion from the Dom
partment by the Board of Fire Officers in such manner and upon sue
hearing or trial as may be preseribed or provided by the bylaws
and rules of the Board of Fire Officers; the suspension or expel-,
sion of any Company being subject to the approval of the membershiv
of the Department and the Council of the Village of Chanhassen.
SECTION VII
I
rticle 1. No person shall be allowed to enter any fire house or handle any
apparatus or implements belonging to the Department unless accom-
panied by an active member of the Department.

be taken or moved out of its house unless the Foreman or Captain
or at least one member of the Company to which the same shall be-

upon consent of the Village Council and of the Chief.
SECTION VIII

its memberst the result of such vote shall be reported to the

SECTION IX
It shall be the duty of the Chief to call out for practice dr3.11,;
one or more Companies of the Department, and tbe.said Chief may,
whenever he deems noaessary, call out any or all such Company
or Companies for such drills'whon and where he may think advis-
able$ but each Company shall be drilled and trained not lass tbae
once each month, except during the winter season. Any Compa"Y
officer or member boing reported to the B.oard of Fire Officers
for refusal or failure to respond to any such order' such COm-
pany, officer or member shall be liable to suspension or expul-
sion as provided for by the rules and regulations of the Board
of Fire Officers.
It shall be the duty of the Chief to arrange the drills and
training so that they will include the proper and efficient use
of all appliances and apparatus, the quick handlings laying and
raising of hose, handling of stroams' use of shut-off nozzles,
forcible entry tools' salvage work, ladder work# life saving and
modern methods of extinguishment.
SECTION X
All charges for offenses or negloct of duty or insubordination
while on duty at a fire that may be preferred against any Coco--
pa.ny, officer or member of the Department shall be tried and de-
termined by the Board of Fire Officers, subject, however,.to an
appeal from such decision to the Council of the Village:af.Cban-
hasseny who shall either confirm the action of the Board of Of-
ficers or refor the same back to them for retrial.
In the event of a retrial being ordered by the Council, -the de-
cision arrived at by the Board of Fire Officers at suchretrial
shall be final, conclusive and not subject to appeal.

SECTION XI
Article
1. No person shall drive any vehicle over a fire hose except upon
