ORDINANCE N0. 24B
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2, SECTION 8, AND SECTION 12 OF
ORDINANCE NO. 24, ADOPTED MARCH 4, 1968, AND ENTITLED " AN
ORDINANCE LICENSING AND REGULATING DOGS, PROVIDING FOR IMPOUNDING
DOGS, AND PRESCRIBING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION".
The Council of the Village of Chanhassen ordains:
Section 1. Section 2 of Ordinance No. 24 of the Village
of Chanhassen adopted by the Village Council on March 4, 1968,
is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 2. License Required. No dog owner shall keep any
dog within the Village over 'six months of age after the 1st day
of May, 1968, unless a license therefor has been first secured.
Licenses shall be issued by the Village Clerk for a fee of $2.00
for each male or spayed female dog and $5.00 for each unspayed
female dog. Every application for a license shall be accompanied
by a certificate from a qualified veterinarian showing that the
dog to be licensed has been given a vaccination against rabies
in compliance with Section 19. An application for a license
for a spayed female dog shall present a statement from a qualified
veterinarian indicating that the dog has been spayed and giving
the date of the operation. Licenses shall expire on the 30th
day of April next following their issuance.
. 2.01 Late -License Penalty. If the license for a dog is
obtained while the dog is impounded by the Village or after
the required license period has commenced, there shall be added
to the regular license fee a late -license penalty of an additional
$2.00 for each such dog.
Section 2. Section 8 of Ordinance No. 24 of the Village of
Chanhassen adopted by the Village Council on March 4, 1968, is
hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 8. Redemption. Any dog may be redeemed from the
pound by the owner thereof within the period stated in Section 7
by paying to the Clerk the license fee for the current year, an
impounding fee of five dollars ($5.00), and a fee of two dollars
($2.00) for each day or any portion of a day the dog is confined
in the pound. If the dog to be redeemed was impounded or was
the subject of a complaint filed by the Village once during the
twelve (12) month period preceding the date of the present
impounding, the impounding fee shall be $10.00; or, if the dog
was impounded twice during such period, the impounding fee shall
be $20.00; or, if the dog was impounded three or more times
during such period, the impounding fee shall be $40.00.
• Section 3. Section 12 of Ordinance No. 24 of the Village of
Chanhassen adopted by the Village Council on March 4, 1968, is
hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 12. Establishment of Pound. The Village may construct
and maintain a dog pound, or the Council may designate as the
dog pound a suitable and reputable kennel either within or without
the Village limits.

12.01 Dog Warden. The Village Council shall appoint an
• official dog warden, who shall have the authority of a police
officer of the Village and whose duty shall be to enforce this
Ordinance. Such warden shall display on his person a proper
identification badge.
