Ordinance 138. CITY OF CHANHASSEN Is CARVER AND HENNEPIN COUNTIES, MINNESOTA ORDINANCE NO. 138 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 9, ARTICLE III OF THE CHANHASSEN CITY CODE CONCERNING THE FIRE CODE The City Council of the City of Chanhassen ordains: section 1. Section 9-42 of the Chanhassen City Code is amended to read: Interpretation. Whenever the 1988 National Fire Codes or any part of this article conflict with the Minnesota Uniform Building Code, or are less restrictive than the Minnesota Uniform Fire Code, the Minnesota Uniform Building Code and the Minnesota Uniform Fire Code, whichever is applicable, shall prevail. Section 2. Section 9-43 of the Chanhassen City Code is amended to read: Technical Standards --Adopted. The 1988 Minnesota Uniform Fire Code and Uniform Fire Code standards, and the 1988 • National Fire Codes recommended by the National Fire - Protection Association are adopted by reference. One (1) copy of each code or standard referred to in this section marked "official copy" and shall be on file in the office of the City Clerk for use and examination by the public. The City Clerk shall furnish copies of the codes or standards at cost to any person upon request. . Section 3. Section 9-44 of the Chanhassen City Code is amended to read: Amendments Made in the Minnesota Uniform Fire Code. (a) Section 4.108 of the Minnesota Uniform Fire Code is amended by adding the following: but is not limited to those listed. (b) Section 10.302(a) of the Minnesota Uniform Fire Code is amended by adding the following: Fire alarm and sprinkler systems shall be tested annually by specialists. A written record of tests and maintenance shall be maintained and made available to the inspection authority. (c) Section 20.307 is amended to read: When servicing more than twenty (20) sprinklers, shall be supervised by an approved central, proprietary or remote station service or a r01/29/91 local alarm which will give an audible signal at a • constantly attended location. Section 4. The Chanhassen City Code is amended by adding Section.9-47 to read: Storage of Flammable or Combustible Liquids. The limits referred to in Section 79.501 of the Minnesota Uniform Fire Code in which storage of flammable or combustible liquids are prohibited are hereby established as within the boundaries of the City. Section 5. The Chanhassen City Code is amended by adding Section 9-48 to read: Storage of Liquefied Petroleum Gases. (a) The limits referred to in Section 2-2.1.7 of the Uniform Fire Code Standard 82-1, in which the storage of liquefied petroleum gas is restricted are hereby amended to read aggregate capacities of 30,000 gallons water capacity. (b) Where a single container or the aggregate of interconnected containers is 250 or more gallons water capacity, the installer shall obtain a permit from the Bureau of Fire Protection. • (c) All single container installations with a total water storage capacity of 2,000 gallons or greater, or where the aggregate of interconnected containers is greater than 2,000 gallons shall be protected by one or more of the following methods: 1. Buried in an approved manner. 2. Mounded in an approved manner. 3. Protected by an approved water application system. 4. Protected by other approved means. Section 6. The Chanhassen City Code is amended by adding Section 9-49 to read: Storage of Explosives and Blasting Agents. The limits referred to in Section 77.106(b) of the Uniform Fire Code, in which the storage of explosives or 'blasting agents is prohibited are hereby established as within the boundaries of the City, except under special permit by the Fire Marshal.
