ORDINANCE NO. 38
AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE A UNIFORM SYSTEM FOR NAMING AND NUMBERING
STREETS AND NUMERING PROPERTIES AND PRINCIPAL BUILDINGS IN THE
VILLAGE OF CHANHASSEN.
THE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF CHANHASSEN ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. UNIFORM NAMING AND NUMBERING SYSTEM.
1.01 Auniform system of naming and numbering streets
and numbering properties and principal buildings, as shown on that certain map
identified as Village of Chanhassen Street Index on file in the office of the Village
Clerk, is hereby adopted for use in the Village of Chanhassen. Said index and
• all explanatory matter thereon is hereby adopted and made a part of this ordinance.
SECTION 2. ASSIGNMENT OF NAMES AND NUMBERS.
2.01 All properties or parcels of land within the Village
of Chanhassen shall hereafter be identified by reference to the uniform numbering
system adopted herein, and all existing numbers of properties and buildings not
now in conformity with the provisions of this ordinance shall be changed to con-
form to the system herein adopted within six months from the date of the passage
of this ordinance. The names or numbers of all streets shall be as designated by
the uniform street naming and numbering system.
2.02 Each principal building shall bear the number
assigned to the frontage on which the front entrance is located. In case a
principal building is occupied by more than one business or family dwelling unit,
each separate front entrance of such building shall bear a separate number.

2.03 Numerals indicating the official numbers for
each principal building or each front entrance to such building shall be posted
in a manner as to be visible from the street on which thc, •.uoperty is located.
SECTION 3. ADMINISTRATION.
3.01 The Village Clerk shall be responsible for main-
taining the numbering system. In the performance of this responsibility he
shall be guided by the provisions of Section 2 of this ordinance.
3.02 The Village Clerk shall keep a record of all
numbers assigned under this ordinance.
3.03 The Village Clerk shall issue to any property
owner upon request and without charge a number for each principal building or
• separate front entrance to such building. In doing so, he shall issue only the
number assigned to such building under the provisions of this ordinance. Pro-
vided, however, that the Village Clerk may issue additional numerals in
accordance with the official numbering system whenever a property has been
subdivided, a new front entrance opened, or undue hardship has resulted to
any property owner. The property owner shall be responsible for obtaining
suitable numbers for property identification.
SECTION 4. PENALTIES.
4.01 Any person, firm or corporation violating any
of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon
conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not more than $300.00 or
• imprisonment for not more than 90 days.

SECTION S. EFFECTIVE DATE.
5.01 This ordinance shall take effect and be in force
from and after its passage and publication.
