CITY OF CHANHASSEN CARVER AND HENNEPIN COUNTIES, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION DATE: March 21, 1983 83-09 RESOLUTION NO: MOTION BY COUNCILMAN: Swenson SECONDED BY COUNCILMAN: Watson Resolution Supporting A Postal Address Change for the City of Chanhassen WHEREAS, officials of Chanhassen requested, more than one year ago, that a re-evaluation of postal service addresses be conducted by the Post Office given an anticipated change in mail route carriers: and WHEREAS, the City spent significant time and effort to insure that citizens of our community were fully informed of the choice of postal services before them including the effects of a potential change: and WHEREAS, the postal patrons surveyed overwhelmingly supported changing their postal address to Chanhassen: and WHEREAS, included within the group supporting a change in postal address are several businesses having high customer and public involvement, i.e. Halla Nursery and university of Minnesota Arboretum - all of whom strongly support a change in their postal address from Chaska to Chanhassen: and WHEREAS, the City of Chanhassen and it's citizens were led to believe that the change proposed by our city and our citizens was supported by the postal service: and WHEREAS, again, the overwhelming position of our citizens currently being served by Chaska postal service to change to a Chanhassen address and several of our businesses and residents, e e . ~" i.e. Halla Nursery and the University of Minnesota Arboretum have changed their addresses relying on assurances that a change would be made: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED By the City Council of the City of Chanhassen that the City hereby requests that: l) The decision to change postal service addresses for those residents shown in Exhibit "A" be reaffirmed: and 2) That this decision not be changed solely on the basis of a now presented concern that the 20% of the people are not in favor of this change: and 3) That the postal service adopt a position, if there are concerns that 20% of the residents will be dissatisfied, that notification of the change and responsibility for such is the responsibility of the City of Chanhassen. Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Chanhassen this 21st day of March , 1983.
