Maple Leaf Award
Craig Peterson
January 28, 2008
It is my pleasure to recognize Councilman Craig Peterson for his outstanding service and
dedication to the City of Chanhassen these past 12 years. Craig has devoted a great deal of his
time and talents to the city, which includes:
Chanhassen Planning Commission from 1995-1999
Serving as Chair from 1997-1999
Economic Development Authority from 2000-2007
SouthWest Transit Commission from 2002-2007
Serving as Chair from 2004-2007
Two Terms on the City Council from 2000-2007
Things that stand out most about Craig are his excellent leadership skills and his
commitment to do what it takes to get the job done. He is a leader by example, always prepared
for meetings, and constantly tries to raise the bar by providing thoughts and ideas that enhance
the process or project. Because of his efforts and work ethic, he has earned the respect of the
City Council, commission members, residents, businesses and staff.
During his term on the City Council, he provided leadership on many projects and
policies that resulted in:
Money Magazine naming Chanhassen as one of the
"Best Places to Live in the Nation" in 2005; and
Family Circle Magazine designating Chanhassen as one of the
"Top Ten Towns to Raise a Family in America" in 2007
Some of the projects that Craig worked on, for which he should be very proud, include:
. Construction of Highway 312/212 and the TH 101 Gap Project
. Construction of the new Library
. Numerous redevelopment projects in the downtown area
. Development of the city's first Water Treatment Plant
. Miles of new and reconstructed roads, trails, and parks throughout the community
· Leadership in creating sound fiscal policies and budgets in difficult financial times,
which resulted in a 40% reduction in the city's tax rate over the past five years
Thank you, Craig, for your outstanding leadership, service, and dedication in making
Chanhassen a "Community for Life."
