April 28, 2008 FROM: DATE: SUBJ: Robinson Lake Susan Shoreline Stabilization SWMPI4F-4: Approve Contract Quote for Installation of Shoreline Stabilization REQUESTED ACTION City Council is recommended to authorize the expenditure of funds and approve the construction contract in the amount of $23,435.40 with Minnesota Native Landscapes, Inc. for the above referenced project. Tree protection fence will be used as needed. Erosion protection, topsoil, and seed will also be installed as part of the restoration process. These plans and methods for the proposed shoreline restoration and stabilization on the Robinson property are a result of discussion between City staff, The Kestrel Design Group, Inc., and the homeowner, based on experience in similar projects, cost, and water quality benefits. The shoreline erosion occurring on the Robinson property is a public health, as well as a water quality concern, and needs to be properly restored and stabilized by the City of Chanhassen. Funding for this project has been budgeted in the 2008 Surface Water Management Fund. On April 1, 2008, quotes for the Robinson Shoreline Stabilization on Lake Susan were requested from four separate contractors. Two quotes were received and are summarized as follows: MN Native Landscapes, Inc. Natural Shore Technologies, Inc. $13,935.40 $9,500 $23,435.40 $27,437.50 $7,200 $34,637.50 Based upon the two quotes received, staff is recommending approving the lesser quote submitted by MN Native Landscapes, Inc. and authorizing the installation of the shoreline stabilization by MN Native Landscapes, Inc. for $23,435.40. The anticipated schedule of the project is as follows: Approve Quote Start Construction Substantial Completion May 12, 2008 May 19, 2008 July, 2008 RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that City Council approve expenditure of funds and award contract to MN Native Landscapes, Inc. for the Robinson Property Lake Susan Shoreline Stabilization Project Number SWMP14F-4.
