MAPLE LEAF A WARDS
. Paula Atkins, Park & Recreation Commission: Paula Atkins was appointed
to the Park and Recreation Commission in April of 2002 and admirably fulfilled
six years of service to the community. Paula is a lifelong resident of
Chanhassen and followed her parent's example (Ron and Elaine Roeser) of
volunteering as a means of bettering the community. Together with her
husband Jack (a Chanhassen Volunteer Fireman), Paula and Jack have enjoyed
raising their family of four children in the downtown area. Paula has a strong
connection with Chanhassen's past and a strong interest in its future, especially
in the preservation of the area's natural beauty. Paula's insight into the
community's history was helpful in grounding numerous decisions in the past.
Paula served on the 1987 Park Referendum Committee, the Chanhassen
Centennial Committee, and numerous task force committees. She wrote and
directed the Centennial Melodrama and volunteered as a Carver County Sexual
Violence Phone Responder for two years. In addition to the commission, Paula
is actively engaged in the local arts community serving in most offices of the
Chaska Valley Theatre and performing in many productions. Most recently
Paula has taken an active role in forming a local Historical Society.
. Jean Mancini, Senior Commission: Jean Mancini was appointed to the
Senior Commission in 1999 and served two terms. During her tenure, the
Commission successfully worked with local businesses to designate senior
parking stalls and worked on the expansion of the senior center. Jean has
organized a senior center open house for the past three years, which helped
to showcase the many activities offered at the center. She also was the
commission representative to the Senior Advisory Board. Jean is an
advocate for senior citizens and provided a unique perspective on the
Commission.
