Chanhassen American Legion Club Post 580, 290 Lake Drive
East: Approval of Request to Expand the Liquor Licensed
Premises Area for a Fund Raising Event on August 2, 2008
PROPOSED MOTION
"The City Council approves the request from the Chanhassen American
Legion Club Post 580 to expand their liquor licensed premises to include
their parking lot for a fund raising event on Saturday, August 2, 2008,
contingent upon the receipt of liquor liability insurance covering the event."
Approval of this request requires a simple majority vote of those City
Council members present.
Staff has received a request from the Chanhassen American Legion Club to
expand their licensed premises for strong beer sales at a fund raising event on
Saturday, August 2.
The Legion is holding a Minnesota Independent Wrestling fund raising event to
benefit the Chanhassen Veterans Monument. They intend to have a tent in the
parking lot where the wrestling matches will occur, as well as beer and food
sales. The area will be fenced off and security will be provided. No one will be
allowed to take a beverage from the Legion building to the tent area, and vice
versa. The Legion is also working with the Planning Department for the
issuance of a special event permit, which includes review by Law Enforcement,
Fire Marshal, Engineering and Planning staff. All departments have signed off
on the request. Additionally, as noted in the attached letter, the Legion has also
made contact with Park Nicollet and Northcott concerning the event, and has
received permission to use their parking lots for overflow parking.
In order to display and consume alcohol in the tent area in the parking lot, the
city would have to amend the licensed premises for the Legion to include this
outdoor area for one day.
The City of Chanhassen · A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks. A great place to live, work, and play

To Whom It May Concern:
Saturday August 2nd 2008 from 5 :OOpm-ll :OOpm the Chanhassen
American Legion is looking for permission to hold a Chanhassen Veterans Memorial
fundraiser with a Minnesota Independent Wrestling event in the Legion parking lot. The
event will consist of 6-8 matches in an approximately a 2-3 hour time frame.
We plan on having a tent with the entire area to be fenced off. There will
be a minimum of 4 people working security. There will be 8 employees serving food and
beverages. We have requested and received written permission from Park Nicollet and
Northcott to use there parking lots for overflow parking.
The Legion will also need a temporary extension of our liquor license
where we will be serving beer. Locher brothers will be helping sponsor this event.
We are estimating around 400 people for this event, and are hoping to be
able to contribute approximately $2000.00 to the Memorial fund.
Thanks
Kenny Larson
General Manager
