CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION MINUTES
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2008
SPECIAL MEETING
Mayor Furlong called the work session to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Fountain Conference Room.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Mayor Furlong, Council members Litsey, Ernst and Tjornhom.
STAFF PRESENT:
City Manager Todd Gerhardt and Assistant City Manager Laurie
Hokkanen.
REVIEW APPLICATIONS FOR CITY COUNCIL VACANCIES:
The City Council
reviewed the 14 applications received for the vacant City Council seat. Following discussion,
the Council decided to interview the following six applicants: John Kunitz, Jerry McDonald,
Gary Foster, Bruce Kraft, Steve Donen and Ladd Conrad. The Council discussed that the final
candidate should have experience in the city and be someone who can “hit the ground running.”
The City Council established Thursday, February 7, 2008 as the date for interviews and each
candidate will be scheduled for one-half hour interview. Staff was directed to schedule
interviews beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 8:15 p.m., allowing for a 15-minute break.
Additionally, the Council decided that only the interviews will take place on February 7 and that
further discussion will occur at the work session scheduled for Monday, February 11.
2008 KEY FINANCIAL STRATEGIES:
Staff presented the proposed 2008 Key Financial
Strategies with the City Council’s tabulated priorities. The City Council then discussed their
rankings and determined which strategies they wanted to address in 2008. Staff will prepare a
th
final list of 2008 strategies for consideration at the February 25 meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
