F1 Arbor Day Invite/ProclamatioInvitation to Arbor Day Celebration
In 1876 Minnesota became the fourth state to adopt Arbor Day as an annual
celebration. Today, Chanhassen sponsors an Arbor Day event each year in order
set aside a time to consider what trees do for us and our community. Trees add
beauty and character to our neighborhoods, reduce energy costs, increase property
values, reduce pollution, and help us replace trees we've lost in our community.
Perhaps Elton Tmeblood said it best when he wrote, "A man has finally begun to
discover the meaning of human life when he plants a tree under which he knows
full well he will never sit." Let us plant today, the trees of tomorrow.
I invite all area residents, their families and friends to Chanhassen's Arbor Day
event will be held on Saturday~ May 3 at the Recreation Center Warmina
House. From 10 am to noon, volunteer groups will be cleaning local parks and
gathering for an appredation lunch. At noon, the connnnnity Arbor Day event
gets underway with free seedl~gs being given away and Master Garden~
available for gardening consultations. Potted spruce trees, bedding plants and
bagged compost will be for sale during this time as well. At noon, the Minnesota
Zoomobile will be on hand for a wildlife presentation about Minnesota animals
and at 1 pm kids can participate in a variety of environmental games and projects.
I encourage everyone to come to this free event.
