MnDOT Landscape Partnership Grant Agreement Resolution
PROPOSED MOTION
"The City Council approves the attached resolution entitled MnDOT
Community Roadside Landscaping Partnership Program Authorization
Resolution, State Project 1009-969 (TH 101=187)."
City Council approval requires a simple majority vote of City Council.
DISCUSSION
Staff is requesting approval to enter into a Community Roadside Landscape
Partnership Grant Agreement with the Minnesota Department of Transportation
(MnDOT). As part of the application, the City is requested to pass a resolution
regarding the City's commitment to a partnership agreement with the MnDOT.
The landscape project was initiated last year at the request of the residents who
live in the area of the Hwy 101 South realignment. Staff contacted MnDOT with
a letter of interest in their Landscape Partnership Program. The city was approved
and landscaping was installed in the area in the spring. This year's project
extends the landscaped area to further meets the needs of the neighborhoods. A
draft plan is being developed by MnDOT and the residents.
Funding for this project will be provided by MnDOT. Covered under the grant
will be the plants, compost, wood chips, and rodent guards. The total project cost
has not yet been determined. The city will assist with requesting bids for the plant
materials, selecting the approved bidder, taking delivery of the plants, storing the
plants, providing a water truck on the day of planting, and augering the holes.
The residents will commit to providing all of the labor on planting day to include
planting, watering, and mulching all of the trees and shrubs and then watering the
plants throughout the first season and as needed beyond. They will also monitor
the plants and contact MNDOT with any maintenance needs.
