Fire Department Overview:
Staffing is at 41 active firefighters and 2 probationary firefighters as of January 3,2009,
allocation is 45 PTE's.
We finished 2008 with a total of 539 calls, down 32 from 2007. Of the 539 calls, 24 were
structure fires and we responded to 214 medical calls. As of January 12,2009, we have
responded to 12 calls, down four from the same time period last year. We did have a storage
building fire and responded to mutual aid from Eden Prairie on a house fire since our last council
update.
Training:
This month's training consisted of EMT and First Responder medical refresher classes.
Fire Marshal:
Fire Prevention: Nothing new to report on at this time.
Fire Investigations: The only fire to report on was on January 5, 2009 at 1505 Bluff Creek
Drive at 5:40 p.m. The call came in as a shed fire. Upon arrival, a fire was discovered in a pole
barn. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes and damage was limited to contents and a
small part of the building structure. The fire was caused by combustible chairs placed too close
to a wood burning stove.
Fire Inspections: New and existing building projects at various stages of construction: Carver
County License Center, Chanhassen High School, IDI Building on Audubon Road, Autobahn
Motorplex, Snap/BIG Building, Super Dog kennels, Walgreens, Grizzly's Pizza, and K.
Hovnanian Town Homes.
