On an annual basis, thc City of Chanlxasscn reviews thc contra~ with R~ach
for ReBorn'cos (formally West ~ Commm~ty Sea'vice~) to provide
Resources since 1999 for thc~ services.
Staff has started to see increased inquires and participation in the prognuns
offered. ~ enrollment numbers ware not huge, we did have participation
in programs sponsored by Reach. Inclusion services wc~ also arranged for
participants in pre-school baskeibalL pre-school t-ball, and most recently
children participated in west teen explorer, floor hockey, girls club, and kam~
This past stunmcr, Reach staff trained our playground ~ on how to address
or accommodm~ a person with disabilities, provided guidelines for effectively
working with families, techniques and tips to integrate aL1 participants,
much more. Reach slaff did an awesome job and we a~ going to incortx:m~
thrilled that these special inclusion scrviccs are available for their children and
tl~ they a~ able to participate in activities with their siblings and fdcnds. I
predict our numbers will increase as people participate and with word of
mouth and constant advcrti~ We az~ definitely picking up mom~tzrm and
during the fall of 2002 we had the most participation of all the cities Reach
serves. O I have seen first hand th~ we arc msldng a difference in these
chil~'s lives. They feel so good about themselves that they arc able to
participate just liim cve~one else.
It is staff's r~commendmion that the psrir and Recreation Commission
recommend approval to the City Cotmcil of thc 2003 contract with Reach for
developmental disabilities. The contract amount is $3281.00 and this amount
