On 01-27-03, there.was a double funeral of two ~eenage victims 1Yom a drowning on I~<e
Mlnne~onka,'at the St Hubert's church In .Chanhasse. 'm The funeral was a very large evb'nt ·
that had drawn the local media after, on. The fumeral needed coordination ~or franc
con~rol of the ~uneml imm)cession and a media gal~erlng area,, so the dignity of the
deceased could be maintained while allowing med~a coverage of the story.
Deputy Kelth Walgrave works the patrol district I" Chanhassen. He took on the
responsibility of making sure the ITaglc event went smoothly. The funeral tof). k place and
then the funeral procession went through Chanhassen Into Eden Prairie. Deputy
Walgrave made prior arrangement~ with the Eden Pmb'le po#ce, Io tiiere would be a
smooth transition from our Jurisdiction Into thelm With the funeral procession.
The funeral occurTed without Incident, the deceased left the ch'urch, and Went to the'
burial site while being under the watchful eye of Deputy Walgrlve.

Supervisor Actions/Comments
Deputy Walgrave took on the funeral details without being ordered, or encouraged. He
went beyond his normal scope of duties to take on'the responelblltty of handling a,n
· event with sbcteen hundred people present, and the media present to mdc)rd any.
mistakes. He called all of the Safety Patrol membem, arranged for them to be present,
and assigned them their positions. He stepped up and showed his .cledlcatlon to his Job
wtthout question. I commend Deputy Walgrave for showing his professionalism during
this funeral.
