Public Worka Director/City Engineer City of Chanhasson 690 City Center Drive Chanhasaen, MN 55317 CITY OF CHAN~i,o,$~EN JAN 1 7 ZOO3 E~GINEERING DE PI'. Dear Ms Burgess: Aa we discussed during our Monday 1/13Kr3 meeting, Short Elliott Hendrickson ~c.' (SE[-]) appreciates this opportunity to provide engineering services for Well No. 9. The following text and attached table stunmarize the benefits and fees associated with retaining SElL Experience/Insight/Cost Savings - SEll is familiar with Chanhassen's water system and the regional ground water system through working with the City, preparing the Wellhead Protection Plan, and working extensively in the area. This insight, coupled with our working relationships (City Staff, Well Contractors, and Regulatory Agencies), positions us to groficienfly identify, research, and implement options that will likely save Chanhassen money. One example we d/scussed was the construction of a Glacial Drift Well with a piriess adapm' serving Well House No. 3. This would elim/nate the need for the design/construction of a new well house. Another example is our ability to work with well contractors to rapidly construct deep wells. Local Presenee/Respo~ivene~Con~a'ueflon Services - SEH staff availability and location enables us to meet the tight schedule, be responsive, and provide superior construction services. Projected ~n~neertng Costs/~e.l~lule - Projected costs are summarized in the .--,"-hed table. If a test well confirms that a well house is not require&, thc engineering costs (items IV and V) would be greatly reduced and the timeline for completion could be b,o~ Even if a well house and a deep well do prove necessary, SEll will still meet the June 15, 2004 deadline. Thank you again. We look forward to a successful project. Respectfully Submitted, James P. Norton, P.E. Principal/Manager, Water Practice Center 651.490.2115 Steven G. Nelson, P.E.
