Award of Bids, Generator at Tiff: station No. 10, Project No. 01-11
REQUESTED ACTION
Award contract to Zicglcr (Catcrp~) in thc amount of $31,960.52 for a
generator at Lift Station No. 10.
DISCUSSION
Installation of a permanent standby generator was directed by thc City Council
during thc discussions on thc Big Woods on Lotus Lake plat approval. It was felt
that thc a_rea was cnvironmcntally _s~itive which, combincd with thc large
amount of sanitary sewer flow throuih L/fi Station 10 ~ hisWrical problems
with 3-plmse eleclr/cal scrvice in thc area, installation ora standby EmcraWr to
(~6UZE thc lift Stnt/on fllzlctio118 properly was justifi~ Until ape~zumcnt
~cncraWr could be installed, thc C/ty has .tem!xmazily podtioned its troffer-
mounted generator at the site. The City will need this gcncraWr to be available
for the spring storms and it lacks the proper sound az'tcnuafion ncce~ for
permanent installation.
Thc City solidtccl quotes from area dealers for the Ecnerator. A lctter from
Boncstroo, Roscnc, Ande~l~; and Associa~ (Boneshx~) is attached
summarizing thc quotes. Bonestroo has r~'~nmmded award of contract to
Zicglcr in the amount of $31,960.52. City Staff concurs with thi,
rccommcadation.
Failure to approve mi. item will delay thc pcmmnent installation which would
have a negative i .mr~ on thc neighborhood and would inh~it thc City's ability
to respond to power outages ¢lscwhcr~ in thc City.

Dear Kclley:
Attached arc three (3) quotes for the proponed new permanent 200KW 8enetator at Lit~ Station l 0.
A summary ofth¢ quotes is aa follows:
Zicgler (CaterpiUar)
DTE Energy (Katoli~ht)
Cummins Npowet, LLC (Omm)
S31,960.$2 (includes add ~ ~rom Rtel tank)

S39,990.75
The specified delivery dale was March 2 t, 2003. Zcisler cannot make that date. Their lead time would
be 14 weeks after receipt of approved shop drawi.~n~s.. They can get shop ctrnwinp to me ! week after
project is awarded, therefore., assuming a January 27 awn-d, delivery would be end o£April. A~uming
the end of April delivery is acceptable, we recomm~d award to Zieeler (C_am'oillar) for the_nmouot et'
No~ the generator ia larger than the existing coneTete pad at the LiR Station 10 site, Once we know the
exact dimensions of' the set I wi].l work with the City to come up with the requh'ed pad modifications
and to receive quotes for tho electrical installation of the new generator.
Yours very truly,
