SAFER currently has 4 participants in Chanhassen, and both the Carver County Sheriff's Department and the Chanhassen Fire Department have received education/training from SAFER. RECOMMENDATION No action is requested. Chanhassen is a Community for Life - Providing for Today and Planning for Tomorrow SEARCH AND FIND EMERGENCY RESPONDERS ...~ ,------ - I S.A.F.E.R MISSION STATEMENT To assist and locate people who have wandered, and return them to their care giver. WHO IS S.A.F.E.R? Our team is made up of Police, Fire, EMS, Search & Rescue and trained telemetry responders. HOW DOES S.A.F.E.R WORK When a SAFER member is missing, their care giver will call 911, and our team will be dispatched along with all other responders to locate them. We will have the appropriate tools to track anyone wearing the SAFER unit. HOW DO WE SIGN UP? Simply go to www.safermn.net and fill out the online form. Someone from the SAFER group will contact you within 24hrs. IS IT EXPENSIVE? Most families could easily afford our tracking package and low monthly fee. For families who cannot afford it, the SAFER group will do everything they can to assist families. HOW CAN I HELP? SAFER needs to stay in our county, and we need as much financial support as possible. To make a donation contact us today. I Bob &.Linda Shanahan t 0:: W LL ~ (f) . " Who We Help? Autism Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person's ability to communicate and interact with others. Alzheimer's Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a slowly progressive disease of the brain that is characterized by impairment of memory and eventually by disturbances in reasoning, planning, language, and perception. Down syndrome Down syndrome affects kids' ability to learn in different ways, but most have mild to moderate intellectual impairment. Kids with DS can and do learn, and are capable of developing skills throughout their lives. They simply reach goals at a different pace - which is why it's important not to compare a child with OS against typically developing siblings or even other children with the condition. Williams Svndrome Williams syndrome is a rare genetic condition (estimated to occur in 1/7,500 births) which causes medical and developmental problems. Soto Syndrome Soto Syndrome, also known as cerebral gigantism because of the distinctive head shape and size, is a genetic condition causing physical overgrowth during the first years of life, Ironically, this rapid physical development is often accompanied by delayed motor, cognitive and social development. Muscle tone is low, and speech is markedly impaired. A.D.H.D Kids with ADHD act without thinking, are hyperactive, and have trouble focusing. They may understand what's expected of them but have trouble following through because they can't sit still, pay attention. or attend to details. Volunteer Responders Anyone that is to assist us in a search must complete an 8 hour training class where we teach volunteers to use the telemetry equipment, and teach them how to interact with people of special needs. More than Search and Rescue In 2009, SAF.E.R is reaching out to the community once again. Here are a few of the new programs we will offer. 1) Individualized safety plan 2) Swimming Lessons for special needs children 3) Free indoor pool time at local hotels 4) Support groups for families 5) Support groups for Dads of special needs children 6) Friendship Circle 7) Gluten & Dairy free cooking classes WE NEED YOUR HELPI SAF.E.R was started with no help from government or county funds. It was funded by regular hard working residents of our County whom needed the program to get off the ground. and prove to organizations that it is a great cause, and there was a need for the program to exist. With your help, we can assure that SAF.E.R will be around for many years to come, and that any person that has a special need. will be protected if they happen to wander away.
