Phone 952-474-7094 MEMORANDUM TO: Todd Gerhardt, City Manager FROM: Gregg Geske- Fire Chief Roger Smallbeck - 1 st Assistant Chief Rick Rice - 2nd Assistant Chief Mark Littfin- Fire Marshal f()~1 DATE: May 14, 2009 SUBJ: Monthly City Council Update Fire Department Overview: Staffing is at 39 active firefighters and 4 probationary firefighters as of May 14,2009. We had one firefighter retire after 20 years of service with the Fire Department. As of May 14,2009 we had responded to 191 calls, up 1 call from 190 at the same time last year. We did not have any structure fires since our last council update. Training: This month we trained at the Edina Training Tower. We also did a water rescue training session. Fire Marshal: Fire Prevention: The Fire Department is starting to receive requests for neighborhood block parties, company parties, fire truck ride to school, and various station tours. Requests are posted at both fire stations and firefighters generally sign up to assist. Other upcoming events include 4th of July activities, Summer Safety Camp, and National Night Out. Fire Investigations: No fires to report on. Fire Inspections: Inspections are continuing at new construction projects, all at various stages of completion. They include the Chanhassen High School, Walgreens, Kwik Trip, Autobahn Motorplex, I.D.I. Industries, Chanhassen Public Works, R.R. Donnelly remodel, and approximately 10-12 smaller remodeling projects. Also a number of businesses, i.e. Target, Cub and others will be inspected as part of the permit process for selling consumer fireworks.
