is 45 PTE's
As of June 15,2009, we have responded to 240 calls, down 12 calls (from 252) at the same time
last year. We had a boat accident, accessory structure fire, and a residential cooking fire since
our last council update. We have also responded to other departments for mutual aid for some
larger incidents recently. We will be participating in the annual July Fourth festivities again this
year.
Training: This month's training consisted of water flow and apparatus operations training.
Fire Marshal:
Fire Prevention: Plans are underway for Summer Safety Camp, Chanhassen Park and
Recreation summer playground activities, 4th of July activities, and National Night Out. Along
with the City events, we are getting calls requesting a fire truck at numerous neighborhood block
parties, employee picnics, and 4th of July neighborhood association parades. We are currently
sending out e-mail alerts to apartment management companies regarding some GM cars that
have been on recall lists for catching on fire. Some metro fire departments have responded to car
fires in below ground parking garages.

Fire Investigations: There were three fires of substance recently. The first was on May 26th at
6:39 p.m. on Windmill Drive. The fire destroyed an accessory structure that was used for a
photography business. The Fire Department was on the scene for approximately three hours
extinguishing the fire along with salvage and overhaul work. No injuries were reported and the
cause of the fire is still under investigation. The second was on May 29th at 7 :53 p.m. on
Highland Drive. The fire started on top of the stove (cooking related), and was quickly put out
with fire extinguishers. The Fire Department again did some overhaul work to determine if fire
had spread in the walls above the stove. The third was a deck fire on Santa Vera Drive at
12: 17 a.m. on June 5th. The fire was limited to a small area of the deck and was caused by
discarded smoking material.
Fire Inspections: New construction projects at various stages of completion include
Chanhassen High School, Autobahn Motorplex, Walgreens, I.D.I. Building, Chanhassen Public
Works, and a number of smaller remodeling projects. We are also starting inspections of all
restaurants/bars, daycares, and gas stations.
