RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING JUNE 3, 2010 AS
CAMP FIRE USA MINNESOTA COUNCIL DAY IN THE CITY OF CHANHASSEN
WHEREAS, the Camp Fire Girls were formed in 1910 to provide youth development
opportunities for girls and young women, and the first Camp Fire groups in Minnesota were
formed in 1912; and
WHEREAS, the former summer home of Governor John Lind in Chanhassen was
purchased for a Camp Fire camp in 1922, becoming Camp Tanadoona; and
WHEREAS, campers first attended Camp Fire's Camp Tanadoona on the shores of Lake
Minnewashta in 1924, making Camp Tanadoona the second oldest establishment in Chanhassen;
and
WHEREAS, Camp Fire expanded its horizons and officially invited boys to participate
in all Camp Fire activities in 1975, with 46% of all youth served by Camp Fire today being boys;
and
WHEREAS, Camp Fire provides out -of- school time programming that builds self -
confidence and leadership skills in youth; and
WHEREAS, Camp Fire helps youth to stay healthy and active through its emphasis on
outdoor learning and forging connections with nature; and
WHEREAS, Camp Fire serves more than 2,000 youth, including more than 100 residents
of Chanhassen, each year; and
WHEREAS, Camp Fire is celebrating its 100 -year anniversary in 2010.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Tom Furlong, Mayor of the City of Chanhassen, do hereby
proclaim Thursday, June 3 2010, to be:
Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council Day in the City of Chanhassen
Passed and adopted by the Chanhassen City Council this 24 day of May, 2010.
