Typically, watermain should be buried at 7.5' to reduce the likelihood of the pipe freezing. Since the roadway is proposed to be lowered approximately 3', the watermain in this area should also be lowered the same amount. In order for the watermain lowering to take place and keep properties in service, temporary water connections will also be needed. Several watermain gate valves will also need to be replaced. Most of the change order has unit costs for each of the items which were bid out. The lowering of the watermain is the main item that staff did need to get a unit price for. The proposed change also requires more material to be exported. Staff has reviewed the lowering of the watermain costs with other past projects and finds the costs competitive with these projects. The cost breakdown of the proposed change order is as follows: Retain wall - $30,000 Storm sewer -$ 7,000 Landscaping /restoration - $40,000 Street and dirt work changes $93,150 Watermain improvements $118,835 $134,985 Funding for this work has been included in the financing for the project. g: \eng \public \_2010 projects \10 -02 audubon road imp \061410 bkgd appv col.doc
