WS 2011 01 10 CHANHASSEN CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION JANUARY 10, 2011 Mayor Furlong called the work session to order at 5:35 p.m. COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Furlong, Councilman Laufenburger, Councilwoman Ernst, Councilwoman Tjornhom, and Councilman McDonald STAFF PRESENT: Todd Gerhardt, Laurie Hokkanen, Kate Aanenson, Todd Hoffman, Jodi Sarles, and John Stutzman OVERVIEW OF CHANHASSEN REC CENTER SPORTS PROGRAM. Todd Hoffman introduced Jodi Sarles, Rec Center Manager and John Stutzman, Recreation Supervisor who run the Rec Center Sports Program. They reviewed their power point presentation outlining the mission statement, history, and programs offered now and in the future for preschool and after school children. Councilwoman Tjornhom asked about marketing. Todd Gerhardt asked staff to explain how the current programming compared to what the YMCA was th offering. Mayor Furlong asked if the new program Teen Time is currently being offered to 6 th through 12 graders. Councilman Laufenburger asked about skills feedback to parents, demographics, and staff and volunteer training. DISCUSS 2011 KEY FINANCIAL STRATEGIES. Todd Gerhardt reviewed the results of what was discussed with council and staff from the Saturday morning’s work session. Councilwoman Ernst asked about employees with police/fire and PERA packages. Councilman McDonald asked about including a discussion of deferred sick time and vacation under PTO versus sick/vacation. Denny Laufenburger asked about the number and placement of tennis courts in city parks. Mayor Furlong suggested looking at capacity at other cemeteries within the city limits when discussing expansion of the City’s cemetery. Councilwoman Tjornhom asked about what’s involved with creating a new cemetery. Mayor Furlong suggested adding 23, 2011 state bonding bill, with ongoing legislative initiatives and using the development forum model to bring to city business/industrial owners.
