MEMORANDUM
TO: Don Ashworth, City Manager
FROM: Todd Hoffman, Park & Recreation Director
DATE: August 20, 1997
SUBJ: Appointments to the Citizen Oversight Committee; Park, Open Space & Trail
Referendum Projects
On June 14, 1997, the residents of Chanhassen approved a $4.9 million referendum for parks,
open space, and trails. Literature explaining the components of the proposal included the
following question and answer:
Q. Will money be spent on parks only?
A. Yes, a Citizens Oversight Committee will be formed to ensure the funds are spent
in strict accordance with the referendum proposal. No funds will be used for
other city services or administrative payroll. An independent public audit and
annual report of all bond referendum fund expenditures will be required and
publicly reported.
To facilitate the formation of this committee, the attached press release was published in the
August 7 & 14 Villager. A headline article of August 14 also noted the call for applicants. To
date, one application has been received and three other inquiries have been made.
RECOMMENDATION
Due to a lack of applicants, it recommended that the city council table this item for two weeks.
