Letter to federal legislators.
Your office was recently contacted by Robert Lindahl on behalf of the Southwest Transit
communities seekirt* ^r endorsement of using ISTEA funding for Highway 212 through the
commv1f1AW Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, and Chaska. Our city council has voted to support the
construction of Highway 212 through the City of Chanhassen and, accordingly, Mr. Lindahl's
letter to you correctly represents our commitment to this project. However, your office should
also be aware of the fact that the City of Chanhassen has joined with Hennepin County, Carver
County and Eden Prairie to support an ISTEA application for the reconstruction of State
Highway 101 from Highway 5 to our northerly border (current termination of
Crosstown/Highway 62).
This letter is to confirm that the City of Chanhassen is in favor of both projects, but if through the
hearing process a decision is made that only one of the two projects can be funded, our choice
would be to ensure that those dollars are directed towards the reconstruction of TH 101. With
the completion of Crosstown this summer, it is anticipated that the only means of ingress /egress
will be Highway 101 north of Crosstown or Highway 101 south of Crosstown. Given the major
increase in traffic that will be created as a result of Crosstown, we are envisioning severe
congestion on Highway 101 that will result in a major increase in the number of accidents/
fatalities along this relatively minor length of roadway. We sincerely appreciate whatever
support you can offer in our application for the reconstruction of State Highway 101.
On behalf of the Chanhassen City Council
Nancy Mancino
Mayor
