MEMORANDUM
TO: Don Ashworth, City Manager
FROM: Karen J. Engelhardt, Office Manager
DATE: March 19, 1997
SUBJ: Approval of 1997/98 Liquor Licenses
Attached please find a summary listing of all Chanhassen liquor licenses that are renewed
annually by the city council. All applications received meet city requirements; however, I am
still working with several establishments who have not yet submitted all of their paper work.
This is not unusual and I will continue to work with them.
One change for this year is that St. Hubert's is applying for a temporary beer and wine license for
various events they hold throughout the year (they are allowed to serve liquor on no more than 12
days per year). In previous years they only were licensed to serve beer.
Pauly's is not listed on the attached sheet because their license was approved by the council
earlier this year and I am still working with them on the necessary documentation to submit to
the state. It is my understanding that the Chanhassen Bowl will be renewing their license until
Mr. Pauly is ready to take over the operation. At that time the Chanhassen Bowl will be
reimbursed, on a prorated basis, for any unused portion of their fee.
I am sure that the council has read in the newspaper that Lund's has purchased the Byerly's
stores. A public hearing is required to transfer the license to the new owners. This public
hearing will be held on April 14 with adjacent property owners being notified.
The Public Safety Department has completed background investigations on each applicant, which
included a criminal history, outstanding warrants, and driving records. No negative comments
were found on any of the applicants.
I have contacted the Carver County Treasurer's Office to determine if any liquor establishment is
delinquent on their property taxes. The only establishment that is not current on their taxes is the
Chanhassen Bowl and the council is well aware this issue.

All liquor licenses will become effective on May 1, 1997; however, the state requires that all
licenses be submitted to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety no later than April 1, 1997.
No license will be issued until all necessary documents have been received.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the 1997 /98 liquor license applications as listed
on the attached sheet, contingent upon receipt of all necessary documentation.
