OATH OF NEW MEMBERS: Council Member, Linda Jansen, lead the oath and
welcomed all the new Senior Commission Members to the board. New commissioners
are Jean Mancini, Tom Faust, and Mel Kurvers.
UPDATE ON DOWNTOWN BEAUTIFICATION: Jean Mancini and Bobbie Headla
attended the last Garden Club meeting and where designated to take care of the flowers in
front of the Senior Center. The Senior Commission will meet on Saturday, May 22nd at
9:30am to plant flowers in the front of City Hall. There was some concern about the
quality of flowers that were provided by the Garden Club. Some of the plants were half
dead and the Senior Commissioner's felt they shouldn't be planted. At this point each
Senior Commissioner donated a few dollars a piece to cover the costs for a few new
annual plants. Jill Sinclair, City of Chanhassen Environmental Resources Coordinator,
approved the purchase of 2 flower pot9 to set by the entrance of City Hall. The pots will
be purchased at Bachmann's in Eden Prairie. It was suggested to have a beautification
line in the Senior Commission budget for year 2000.
GRANT THROUGH AREA AGENCY ON AGING FOR CONGREGATE
DINING & MEALS ON WHEELS: Eleven categories of grant opportunities were
discussed for year 2000. A discussion was held in regards to each category. Staff
suggested that the Senior Commission pursue a grant for Congregate Dining & Meals on
Wheels. Commissioner Sherol Howard suggested that the money could be used to
reimburse Meals on Wheels driver's for their mileage. The categories to choose from
included Congregate Dining, Home Delivered Meals, Nutrition Counseling
Demonstrations, Grocery Delivery, Health Promotion, Chore Services, In-Home Respite,
Information & Assistance, Transportation, Legal and Special Access. After the
Commission reviewed the categories they decided they would like to pursue the
transportation grant instead of the Congregate Dining and Meals on Wheels grant.
CONGREGATE DINING & MEALS ON WHEELS: Numbers for the Congregate
Dining Program continue to remain low. There was some discussion on possibly
decreasing the amount of days we serve meals in the Senior Center. Meals on Wheels
numbers are holding steady at 10 to 14 meals a day served.
UPDATE ON SENIOR CENTER ACTIVITIES: Discussed Carver County Senior
Expo. The attendance was down this year. Only 67 seniors were in attendance.
Suggestions were made to only have it every other year. Jean Mancini will serve on the
Expo committee with Sherol Howard next year. There wasn't a Senior Advisory Board
this month so there wasn't a report to give. Reminders were given for the Orchestra Hall
trip and the Saturday Night Special on Saturday, May 22nd.

Assisted Living in the area.
