DATE: July 1, 2002 SUB J: Approve a Resolution Requesting that MnDOT Conduct a Speed Study in the Oxbow Bend Neighborhood - File No. PW-070C-5 _REQUESTED ACTION Approve the attached resolution. DISCUSSION The Oxbow Bend neighborhood has been working to address traffic concerns. Speed studies in the area show that there is not a speeding issue; however, property owners are concerned that the speed limit is set too high. Speed limits for all public streets are set by State Statute and may only be altered by authorization of the Commissioner of Transportation. The City is therefore requesting that Mn/DOT review the area and perform a speed study to determine if a lowered speed limit is appropriate for the Oxbow Bend neighborhood. c: Beth Hoiseth, Crime Preventional Specialist Jill Ramsey, 6362 Oxbow Bend Stephanie Giese, 6356 Oxbow Bend g:\eng\tercsakstaff reports\oxbow bend speed study 7-8-02.doc Date Motion By CITY OF CHANHASSEN CARVER AND HENNEPIN COUNTIES, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION Resolution No. Seconded By RESOLUTION REQUESTING MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION PERFORM A SPEED STUDY IN THE OXBOW BEND NEIGHBORHOOD FOR DETERMINING IF THE SPEED LIMITS CAN BE LOYVERED TO MATCH NEIGHBORING AREAS IN HENNEPIN COUNTY WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Chanhassen does hereby acknowledge the safety concerns of the Oxbow Bend Neighborhood and their efforts to work with City Staff to address their safety concerns; and WHEREAS, these efforts have failed to adequately address their concerns; and WHEREAS, the adjoining neighborhoods located in He~mepin County a/ready have lower posted speed limits than those in the Oxbow Bend Neighborhood; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Chanhassen, Minnesota: .
