City of Chanhassen to Host Water Supply, Treatment
and Distribution System Informational Open House
CHANHASSEN, Minn. -The City of Chanhassen will host an open house on
Wednesday, September 18 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Chanhassen Recreation
Center, 2310 Coulter Boulevard (Highway 5 and Galpin Boulevard, eastside of
the Bluff Creek Elementary School) to inforn~ Chanhassen residents and
businesses about its' Water Supply, Treatment and Distribution Master Plan
project and to solicit comments and recommendations from participants.
Representatives from the city, consulting engineering firm and Project Advisory
Committee (PAC) will be available to describe the Master Plan and answer
questions.
The City's water supply meets all Primary Drinking Water Standards; however,
significant improvements are needed. There are several minerals that exceed the
Secondary Drinking Water Standards, including iron and manganese.
Chanhassen recognizes water system improvements are necessary to ensure
adequate system and supply reliability, especially in the case of fire protection
and during emergencies and to ensure that demands continue to be met.
The City convened a Project Advisory Committee (PAC) in June that will assist
the community in understanding the Master Plan development process and
provides input into the Plan. Black and Veatch Corporation, a nationally
recognized water systems planning and engineering firm with a local office, was
hired to prepare the Master Plan. The Plan prepared by Black and Veatch
Corporation will identify locations for future wells, identify distribution system
improvements to ensure reliability and meet projected demands and identify the
treatment process and water treatment plant site that is best suited to the City's
needs.
