Station 1 Station 2 PO Box 97 6400 Minnewashta Pkwy. 7610 Laredo Drive Excelsior, MN 5533 1 Chanhassen, MN 553 MEMORANDUM TO: Todd Gerhardt, City Manager d& - FROM: Roger Smallbeck - Fire Chief Ed Coppersmith - l Assistant Chief Rick Rice - 2 Assistant Chief Mark Littfin - Fire Marshal DATE: February 18, 2011 SUBJ: Monthly City Council Update Fire Department Overview: Staffing is at 43 active firefighters and four probationary firefighters as of February 14, 2011. There is one firefighter on leave. Current allocation is 45 PTE's. Year to date there have been 59 calls for service. There were 49 calls in January and as of February 14 we have responded to 10 calls. Training: Training scheduled for the month of February will be EMT/First Responder refresher sessions. Fire Marshal: Fire Prevention: There is nothing new to report on at this time. Fire Investigations: A recent multiple house fire had occurred on Wednesday, February 16 which was located at 9160 and 9170 Degler Circle. The fire is currently under investigation. The fire dept was notified at 3:05 am of a possible house fire in the area of Lyman and Audubon. Early arriving squad cars advised the fire department of the correct address on Degler Circle. Twenty -four firefighters responded from Chanhassen with mutual aid assistance from Chaska and Victoria Fire Departments. Eden Prairie was called in to stand by at our main station. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The residents living at 9160 were awaken by their smoke alarms sounding and made it out safely. They had just moved in three weeks prior to the fire. Fire Inspections: We've completed inspections on most hotel, motel, and apartment buildings. All businesses along Lake Drive West should be complete in the next few weeks. The violations that we are finding are minor and are easily corrected by the owners. New construction or remodel projects include Smart Trac, Autobahn Motorplex, K. Hovnanian, Gedney Pickle warehouse addition, Fitness Together, and Body, Mind and Spirit.
