11. Klein House Trade for Moving Railroad Depot.r D CITY OF ._- 690 COULTER DRIVE • P.O. BOX 147 • CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA 55317 (612) 937 -1900 • FAX (612) 937 -5739 MEMORANDUM TO: Don Ashworth, City Manager FROM: Todd Gerhardt, Asst. City Manager DATE: July 2, 1996 SUBJ: Consider Trading the Klein House for Moving the Railroad Depot Action by City AMi idi3 jft Endors Modifie Rejecte Date Submitted to CommiUMN Deto c['!-71ted tg ft"WI As you may know the City of Chanhassen purchased the old Willie Klein house at 8405 Great Plains Boulevard (see Attachment #1). Staff would propose the City Council consider trading the Klein house to Mr. Robert Lunak for his services in moving the old railroad depot. The city has worked with Mr. Lunak in the past when he moved the apartment building located at the intersection of TH 101 and West 78 Street: Mr. Lunak was very thorough and followed all the, terms and time frame under our agreement. Staff would estimate this would save the city approximately $9,000 for lifting and moving the depot based on an estimate from Amcon's Todd Christopherson, P.E. (see Attachment #2). RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends approval of trading the Klein house to Mr. Robert Lunak for his services in moving the old railroad depot and direct the City Attorney to draft an agreement outlining a time frame and conditions (insurance, permit, etc.) regarding moving each of the two buildings.. . 1 NW j av— fi f 101 a Kerber 8/y ` Hw y City , w Park- i school A, k: 1 ' MSS Oft I IS. 1 st Hubrt I I ' i church I rmntfer ,q s Cit of hanhassbn m V ..i City of Eden Prairie 'P VA ch le - I / M — y b I \ ` W 187th fi CO 00 00 00 00 Ave ff. Also, The foundations assume th t you put in frost footings and masonry stem walls. A less expensive system ould be to 6 e a slab on grade with thickened edges and allow the whole str cture to "float" With the frost movements. I am assuming that most othe work items woul be subject to local donations or discounts, etc. I haye of included a category f r repainting, shingling, or siding`t''e sturcture as my undetstanding that t t will be done by the historical society thro volunteers. ' As I indicated, we wuld be able to help out with coordi 'gating the work items or other areas if you desire. Let me know what your thoughts are.
