A special attraction of this state is its abundant parks and lakes. We are frequent visitors to the parks here in Chanhassen, especially Lake Ann and Lake Susan Parks. I run there year- round. During the warmer months, we swim, enjoy the playgrounds, and often eat a picnic supper as the sun sets. It is important to safeguard these parks as Chanhassen and the surrounding communities grow. As development continues in Carver County, the Park and Recreation Commission must advise the City Council on the best ways to properly maintain and use our parks, and provide input on adding new parks to benefit the growing community. As a regular user of the local parklands, and with a14 -year background in financial issues, I believe I can assist in these processes. I also plan on living in Chanhassen for long time, and would like to become involved in and give something back to the community I call home. SIGNA March 14, 1996 Todd Hoffman City of Chanhassen Park and Recreation Dept. 690 Coulter Drive Chanhassen, MN 55317 Dear Mr. Hoffman; I recently saw the article in the Chanhassen Villager looking for applicants for the vacated seats on the Park and Recreation Commission. At this time I would like to be considered for one of those positions. My interest in this position stems from a belief in the importance of a vital and useful park system for a varied and diverse citizenry. A park system can be the heart and soul of a neighborhood and the community, it can set the tone for the way a community grows. Chanhassen is at a stage now that these cornerstones of the city have begun to be set and there's a great deal of growth yet to come. We need to not only provide enough ball diamonds and soccer fields and picnic tables but also some wild areas and an enjoyable trail system. A good park system can and should be, as nearly as anything else, all things to all of our citizens, to bring them together and to give them solitude. Although my resume doesn't reflect a direct life experience with park planning my father instilled in me these above stated values. He was a landscape architect working primarily on city parks and athletic fields. As a family we always spent a large number of our summer weekends camping mostly in state and national parks and always hearing my fathers critiques of the facility. Later in life he bought property near Brainerd to develop into a campground of his own design. I have been a Chanhassen resident for four years now and have been looking for a way to become an active participant in the growth of our city. I feel that this position is a good fit for me, something that I can feel a strong connection to and hopefully look back on and be proud of my contributions. Sincerely Richard Corwine RICHARD J.
