Christopher Parker and Jeffrey Jaskolka, Festival Foods employees, were recognized for assisting the
Carver County Sheriff's Department with solving a theft case. Sheriff Al Wallin presented Christopher
and Jeffrey plaques expressing the Department's gratitude and appreciation for their efforts.
Chairperson Weber called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. Commissioner Beniek motioned,
Commissioner Labatt seconded, to approve the minutes of 2/9/96. Everyone voted in favor, and the
motioned passed.
Fire Department
General report from Chief Bob Moore.
Sheriff's Department
Captain Holt reported that the enforcement of the weight restriction program has been a very valuable
instrument in Chanhassen. The City of Chanhassen purchased weights to help with this effort. Captain
Holt commended the City for this innovated program, and mentioned that other communities are looking
at following our example.
Deputy Tim Koehler will be presenting bike safety seminars, and will be conducting bike patrol in parks
and shopping centers in Chanhassen this summer.
Sheriff Wallin announced the appointment of the new Investigator, Lieutenant Robert Hyde. Lt. Hyde
recently retired from the Los Angeles police department.
Director Harr introduced Mechanical Inspector Jeff Keogh.

Director Harr reported on the Public Safety Open House which will be held on Thursday, June 13, from
5:30 - 8:00 p.m.
A policy concerning Contracted Overtime Assignments was discussed.

Discussion was held on regulating and enforcing snowmobile speed limits. Suggestions were to get '
recommendations from the snowmobile club and increase patrol. Director Harr will solicit input from
the snowmobile club and the Sheriff's Department. Also requested were stats of snowmobile accidents '
and citations for the next packet.
Issue of weather radios vs. weather alert sirens was discussed. A question was asked what the role is of '
the Carver County Sheriff's Department in activating the sirens. It was suggested that Scott Gerber,
Capt. Bob VanDenBroeke and Craig Edwards attend a future meeting for more discussion.
Fire Department Review - tabled '
The city hall expansion project will be brought before the Planning Commission at their next meeting. I
Director Harr thanked the Commissioners on attending Dave Dummer's retirement from the
Commission. I
Discussion followed on an amendment to Chapter 14 of the Chanhassen City Code Concerning Park
Rules, which would allow K -9s in city parks. Currently, K -9s are allowed in city parks under implied '
consent. Commissioner Bernhjelm suggested adding the words "or others acting under their direction
and control" to the amendment. Commissioner Berkland motioned, Commissioner Weber seconded, to
approve the amendment with the additional wordage. All voted in favor and the motioned passed. '
Following the Park & Recreation Commission's endorsement of this amendment, it will be submitted for
City Council approval.
Commissioner Beniek motioned, Commissioner Labatt seconded, to adjourn the meeting. '
