1m. Lyman Blvd Reconstruction and Lake Riley Trunk Utility Improvement: Change Order.L CITY OF CHANHASSEN b, 690 COULTER DRIVE • P.O. BOX 147 • CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA 55317 (612) 937 -1900 • FAX (612) 937 -5739 I 7 DATE: February 21, 1996 SUBJ: Approve Change Order No. 1 to Lyman Boulevard Reconstruction/Lake Riley Area Trunk Utility Improvement Project No. 93 -32B The project engineer from OSM has prepared the documents necessary for the contract amendment (Change Order No. 1) to the Lyman Boulevard Reconstruction/Lake Riley Area Trunk Utility Improvement Project No. 93 -32B. This change order is necessary due to two primary areas of change to the project plans. The first project revision involves some additional costs associated with upsizing the manhole structure near the proposed connection of the City's trunk sanitary sewer line to the existing Metropolitan Council Waste Water Services (MCWWS) Lake Ann Interceptor. This change is needed to meet the MCWWS permits requirement which were received after the project was approved for bidding. This change results in a contract increase of $5,775. The second and much larger part of this change order involves the elimination of approximately 475 feet of 42- inch steel pipe casing (jacked). The elimination of this quantity of pipe jacking is th result of realigning the trunk sanitary sewer line through the northern portion of the Jim Curry property and the Al Klingelhutz property which is ultimately made possible by the recent progress in the time schedule for the Trunk Highway 101 turnback. Now that the turnback appears to be very near; it is likely that a project to realign Trunk Highway 101 south of Highway 5 will be programmed within a couple of years. Given this news, the underlying property owners are much more cooperative in granting the necessary easements which would follow the new Trunk Highway 101 realignment through the middle of their properties. The net result is a contract decrease of more than $302,000. If the Council so chooses, this construction contract cost savings can be used to advance the acquisition of the Jesberg, Klein and Shorba properties along Trunk Highway 101 immediately north of Mission Hills. Ultimately, these acquisition costs would be reimbursed back to the City from the MnDOT County Trunk Highway Turnback account when the Trunk Highway 101 improvement project is initiated. The original construction contract awarded for the project was $2,763,482.53. This change order represents a decrease of $302,324.48 resulting in a revised contract amount of $2,461,158.05. Staff recommends that the City Council approve Change Order No. 1 to Lyman Boulevard Reconstruction/Lake Riley Area Trunk Utility Improvement Project No. 93 -32B resulting in a contract deduct in the amount of $302,324.48 yielding a revised construction contract amount of $2,461,158.05. ktm Attachment: Change Order No. 1 c: Dave Hempel, Assistant City Engineer David Mitchell, OSM Wayne Houle, OSM g."en&h arlesW\lyman.co 1 MEMORANDUM TO: Don Ashworth, City Manager ' FROM: Charles Folch, Director of Public Works I 7 DATE: February 21, 1996 SUBJ: Approve Change Order No. 93 -32B.
