Chaska, MN 55318
Dear Mr. Halla:
This letter is concerning the two large signs attached to your truck on the corner of
Pioneer Trail and Great Plains Blvd. As I informed you several weeks ago, this type of
advertising is prohibited by the City Sign Ordinance. You may not take signs that you
were required to remove and attach them to a vehicle for advertisement purposes. The
signs are in violation whether they are attached to a truck or free standing. Further, the
truck is parked on property which is no longer part of the nursery. You may not store
equipment on this property.
You erected these signs in direct violation of city code after I informed you that this type
of signage is prohibited by city ordinance. Therefore, you shall remove the signs and
vehicle upon receipt of this notice. Failure to comply with this order may result in the
issuance of a citation or legal proceedings.
If you have any immediate questions, please feel free to contact me at 937 -1900, ext. 117.

RE: 1996 First Quarter Flow Calculation
_
a %; `p s
Dear Mr. Folch:
The Metropolitan Council Environmental Services Division has
measured and /or calculated the first quarter flows for 1996
generated within your community to be 192 million gallons.
This information is considered to be preliminary and may be
adjusted based on further review. The Council's estimated total
1996 flow for your community is 780 million gallons.
The above first quarter flow calculation, and the estimated flow
for 1996, includes estimates for any unmetered connections that
either enter or leave your community. Attached is a graph showing
only metered flow for your community, by month, for the past three
years. Therefore, the first quarter flow volume shown above may
not equate to the total 3 month flow volume given in the chart.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please
don't hesitate to call me at 229 -2116.

Mr. Steve Olinger, President
Chaska /Chanhassen Hockey Association
4940 Viking Drive, Suite 600
Edina, MN 55435
Dear Steve:
This letter is a follow up of our meetings of March 22 and May 2, 1996. The City of Chanhassen Park
and Recreation Department is pleased to facilitate the exploration of Lots 5 and 6, Chanhassen Lakes
Business Park 5th Addition as a possible location for an ice arena. As you know, this property is owned
by the Chanhassen Housing and Redevelopment Authority_ (HRA). The presence of poor soils in these
two lots diminishes their marketability. These conditions led to the previous owner (Opus) selling the
lots to the HRA.
If you decide you would like to move forward, I will respectfully request the HRA consider a $1 lease for
a term of 50 to 100 years on this property. If approved, this type of arrangement will certainly make
$100,000 to $200,000 in soil corrections more palatable. Obviously, the extent of soil corrections
required is a big wild card in this entire scenario. I continue to actively pursue additional information
regarding the soils in these two lots.
I have scheduled a presentation regarding the potential of construe
the HRA for Thursday, May 16, 1996. Subsequent meetings wou

Rea Regional Transit Capital Funding Application
Lake Drive East Transit Facility, Villages on the Ponds
Chanhassen, Minnesota
Dear Mr. Furhmann;
The City of Chanhassen, Minnesota does hereby make app
(RTC) funds to incorporate a transit facility on Lake Drive
mixed use development located south of Highway 5 imme,
district. The funding request, in the amount of $190,000.0
on Lake Drive East, heated bus shelters, plaza paving and
furniture. The project will begin in he fall of 1996 and be
lication for Regional 'Transit Capital
East within the Villages on the Ponds
liately south of the central business
a, would provide for the bus cut -outs
;idewalk connections, and street
combleted in the summer of 1997.
The total Lake Drive East project of which this transit facility is included is approximately 1,600
linear feet of roadway with an estimated cost of $463,000. Without the support of the RTC
funds, the transit component of this roadway would be reduced to bus stop signs. Lake Drive
serves as a citywide collector, running parallel to Highway 5. Eventually, this access road system
will connect Highway 41 in western Chanhassen to Dell Road on the Chanhassen -Eden Prairie
border.
The City of Chanhassen is a rapidly growing community located in the southwestern
metropolitan area. While Chanhassen is somewhat unique for a suburb with a well defined
downtown, the Villages on the Ponds project is a ransit oriented development incorporating a
transit facility at the heart of a mixed use development containing commercial, institutional,
office and residential components (173,500, 114,000, and 114,500 square feet, respectively, and
245 dwelling units) in a compact, safe and pedestrian friendly environment. This development
incorporates many of the ideas and techniques espoused in the "Transit Redesign 1996" and the

Livable Communities Act and it is worthy of Metropolitan Council support and financial
assistance.
Southwest Metro Transit fully supports the inclusion of a transit facility on Lake Drive East
within the Villages on the Ponds project in the City of Chanhassen, Minnesota.
SW Metro Transit, the City of Chanhassen and the project developer are working extensively to
improve transit opportunities for residents and businesses. We encourage the Metropolitan
Council to assist in this endeavor through the provision of Regional Transit Capital Funds for the
project.
Sincerely,
1 _
