We on the Values Committee appreciate the continued support of your Council. Enclosed also please find a copy of the Calendar of Events for Values Week. We would appreciate it if you could cause someone in your City to deliver a copy of the Calendar of Events to your local cable T.V. operator and request that they run this with their Community Calendars for a period of time prior to Values Week. (African proverb) The whole community has the responsibility to work in concert with the home to provide consistent messages about how we are to treat each other. WHEREAS: The entire community participated in a process to identify a common ground of basic goodness. The District 112 communities process involved three community forums and a committee that reviewed and summarized the input from the community. The values were then adopted by the city councils, school board and county commissioners. WHEREAS: The entire community must be involved. This includes school, business, clergy, law enforcement, social services, city government and service organizations. This involvement begins with identifying the values and continues by community members modeling and promoting the values. WHEREAS: The City of Chanhassen has adopted and promotes the eight Community Values of CITIZENSHIP, ENVIRONMENTALISM, GENEROSITY, HUMAN WORTH & DIGNITY, INTEGRITY, LEARNING, RESPECT FOR OTHERS and RESPONSIBILITY. WHEREAS: The Values Committee has organized the Fifth Annual Community Values Week. Now, therefore, the City of Chanhassen hereby proclaims the week of February 18 - 24, 1996, to be COMMUNITY VALUES WEEK in the City of Chanhassen. As we continue to face the challenges and opportunities of our society, I call on all citizens of the City of Chanhassen to promote and model these eight values. The City of Chanhassen's commitment and dedication to building a bright future for all members, but especially the youth of this community, remain top priorities. Tuesday, February 20 Motivational Speaker Russell Simon will speak to CHS and CMS students about his life experience. What turned him away from a life of crime and drugs? Russell Simon Speaks to Parents - 7:00 p.m. at Chaska Middle School -Mr. Simon's life was a view from the 'deep end.' He'll help parents understand what kids need from the adults in their lives to turn away from drugs and crime. Values Story Time for Preschoolers (Ages 3-5) - Chaska Library at 10:30 a.m. and/or Chanhassen Library at 2:00 p.m. Climb Theater Presentation: Respect for Others - Jonathan Elementary School, 5:00- 7:00 p.m. Come for the spaghetti and stay for a terrific theatrical presentation.
