In support of these beliefs, the City has created a compost site, increased the materials accepted for recycling, offered recycling and composting items to residents at a reduced cost and generated a greater involvement in recycling by local businesses. The City of Chanhassen supports the waste education proposal and believes a grant from the Office of Environmental Assistance would allow the city the opportunity to provide residents with waste education materials it couldn't otherwise develop or sponsor. The activities outlined in the proposal will further the goals and objectives of the City by benefiting the residents and their environment through education and participation. With the cooperation of the local schools and the University of Minnesota, the City of Chanhassen hopes to bring attention to solid waste issues and promote involvement at home and at school in waste reduction and recycling.
