300 acres of industrial zoned land.

See Attachment #3 for a map indicating all the vacant
developable land in Chanhassen. One thought is to meet with
landowners to discuss, "What will it take to develop your
property?; Why hasn't your property developed yet?; and When
do you think your property will develop?"
Update Vision 2002: "We have no vision!" Staff would recommend
updating our Vision 2002 Plan for downtown Chanhassen and take into
account redevelopment activities and community projects (library, City
Center Commons, etc.).

Meeting called to order by Cindy Ballard. December minutes reviewed. Correction made to PGA date
which should say August 12, 2002. Minutes then approved.
Waconia Downtown Council
Cindy met with the Chairman of the Waconia Downtown Council to ask questions about their organization
and gain perspective on how the Chanhassen DTC could be organized. The Waconia DTC is funded by the
Waconia Tourism Bureau. The DTC has published a map of the downtown Waconia with a key showing
businesses that are members of the DTC. The primary and sole focus of the Waconia DTC is to promote
shopping in Waconia. The DTC is four (4) years old and they do one major promotional event per quarter
(Customer Appreciation Night, Nickel Dickel, Holiday Jubilee, Longest Day). The Waconia DTC charges
its members an annual fee of $200 payable each January. There are 23 members in the Waconia DTC.
Library. Park Proiect
Linda, Cindy and Vicki attended the City planning meeting in December, which covered the City's design
plan for the open space that will be located on the East side of the new library. Linda has been appointed a
member of the design task force and will represent the business community perspective on the project.
Bringing Village Ponds Assn and Market Square Assn into the fold
Vernelle will communicate between the DTC and these 2 marketing organization. It is very important for
the DTC to communicate to these groups all events that the DTC is planning. By doing so, there is an
opportunity for both marketing associations to budget contributions and sponsorship of various events
planned by the DTC.
Vernelle also mentioned that the Market Square Association will be celebrating their l0th anniversary this
year. The association will be planning a marketing event.
Promotion Plan Draft
Cindy requested help in drafting a promotion plan for the DTC. Linda and Mark volunteered to help and
will meet later this month to draft the plan and present it at the next DTC meeting in February.
PGA Update
Linda has received calls in the Chamber office fi.om Ohio and Missouri, requesting maps and places to stay
in the area during the PGA. Lori Day volunteered to contact Hazeltine to see if they have published a map,
to get a schedule of events planned for PGA week and determine who the contact is for the Caddy welcome
bags.
Cindy has contact at the Bloomington Chamber (coordinating Chamber for the PGA) and will request that a
Chanhassen link is put on the event website. Bloomingtonmn.org is the official visitor website for the PGA
event.
It was agreed that the DTC should contact the Chanhassen Villager and Sailor newspapers to make a
proposal on a PGA ad piece that would put in hotels, local news racks, caddy welcome bags, etc that
promotes Chanhassen to this PGA groups. We will need to format the a~t by our Feb meeting in order to
have the ad done on time.
Vernelle also suggested that we contact the Bloomington Chamber organization to let them know that the
Chanhassen DTC would also be interested in coordinating with them on future events at Hazeltine.
Lori Day suggested the DTC consider sponsoring an event evening during PGA week. Farmers market
and a Street Dance ??? The DTC agreed to do some brainstorming to develop a list of ideas.
Farmers Market
Joan Andrew agreed to be on a committee to gather information on starting a Farmers Market in
Chanhassen. Vemelle suggested that Joan contact Jill St. Claire at the City of Chanhassen and ask if she
would also be part of the committee. The Excelsior Chamber will be contacted to gain information on how
to organize a Farmers Market. The committee will also research when and where would be the best for a
Chanhassen Farmers Market.
Holiday~ Event
Cindy has done some initial research on doing a Laser Light Show in conjunction with the Christmas Tree
Lighting ceremony. Cost would be $6-10,000. To offset some of the expense, sponsor logos could be sold
for $1,000 each. The DTC agreed to subcommittee this idea and to research more. Vernelle also brought
up the idea of having a" live nativity scene" as part of the holiday event too. Possibly could have the local
churches involved. Lori mentioned having an artist bring in unique window displays. DTC agreed to have
Lori gather more information on.
Cow Parade
Cindy explained to the group what a Cow Parade is. The group agreed it could be a good promotional idea
for Chanhassen. Agreed to investigate more.
Fundraising
Mark asked to group to brainstorm more ideas to raise operating funds for the DTC. We have many good
ideas but we will need money to carry them out. ~reed-t~-~-,,o

make a quilt that the DTC could raffle off at the Trade Fair. The DTC agreed to go forward with the quilt
and Linda will contact The Sampler accordingly.
