Under state statute the city council must hold a public hearing to solicit citizen comments
regarding the sale of public land (see Attachment 1). The proposed land sale involves the City
of Chanhassen selling 20 acres at the southeast corner of the intersection of Galpin Boulevard
and Highway 5 to Independent School District 112 (see Attachment 2). The sale of this land to
the school district is for the purpose of constructing a new elementary school. The purchase
price for the property is proposed to be $17,000 per acre.
RECOMMENDATION
The Mayor should open the public hearing and request anyone wishing to discuss the proposed
land sale to give their comments at this time. After public comments have been received and
the city council feels comfortable that the public's concerns have been addressed, the public
hearing should be closed..
Again, this public hearing is only to take public testimony. Approval of the purchase agreement
with the school district will take place under Item lg(1) on Monday night's consent agenda.
