SUBJ: Set Special Meeting Dates
It's summer —a time for watching baseball, mowing the grass, and an evening stroll. It is
also a time where various special meeting tasks need to be accomplished by the city
council —a perplexing dilemma. Added to the dilemma is my guess that some of the tasks
are considered important by some council members, but not all. The solution: send up a few
trial balloons and see if any of them fly, i.e:
1) Youth Commission Appointment We have been requested to make an appointment
by the end of the month. Four candidates have come forward. It is recommended that
the city council establish a sub - committee to interview the four candidates. The
recommendation of the sub - committee would then be a part of the June 2 city council
agenda. Depending upon the make -up of the sub - committee, a daytime meeting is
anticipated.
2) Organized Collection Although this meeting could work as a "sub- committee" task
and similarly be considered as a day time meeting, availability of Recycling
Committee members probably precludes this option. Please bring your calendars so as
to establish a meeting date. Please note available meeting times for Dean Johnson
during June, July and August (attached).
3) Vision 2002 Please note that we have changed this to August 1. Similar to the
above item, a sub - committee approach probably wouldn't work.
4) Interview Auditor Candidates This task appears to be an ideal candidate for the sub-
committee approach. Staff would attempt to poll sub - committee members as to a
convenient meeting time in mid to late August. I would anticipate this to be on the
last agenda in August or the first meeting in September.

5) City Hall Expansion The city council and this office are in agreement that this item
is an integral part of the Vision 2002 process. I foresee this item being a part of the
August 1 meeting agenda.
6) Senior Housing This is a reminder that we established June 20 for this item. This is
a high priority for our seniors.
