Dear City Council Members:
The Carver County Unit of the American Cancer Society is requesting the use of Lake Susan
'
Park on August 18 -19, 1995 for the Carver County Relay for Life.
Relay for Life is a unique, challenging, and fun way to raise money for the American Cancer
'
Society by walking around a path. The event is a relay that last for an extended period of time.
We would like to run ours in Carver County from 6:00 pm August 18 to 8:00 am August 19. This
event will be held in over 70 communities throughout Minnesota this year. We'd like very much
for Chanhassen to represent Carver County.
,
The event would be in the park where teams of 10 people from corporations, hospitials,
civic groups, and families take turn in the relay. While the relay is going on a community party
atmosphere is created by team members camping out, enjoying entertainment, food, games, and
comaraderie. The unique part of this event is the overnight aspect. This is what sets us apart
and brings a sense of unity for fighting cancer.
Around
,
10:00 pm a candlelighting ceremony of over 2,000 luminaries is held to honor survivors
and remember those who lost their battle against cancer. At the end of the relay an awards
ceremony is held to award prizes and plaques.
This is a great opportunity for family and co- workers to joint ether in the fight 1 together fg t against cancer.
Money raised from this event will be used by local volunteers to provide services to Chanhassen
and Carver County cancer patients and education to adults and students to help prevent this
disease. Our goal is to raise $20,000 with the help of 200 participants and volunteers.
Please consider our request for using Lake Susan Park overnight. We understand the 10:00 pm
in
curfew place and ask for an exception in this case. All music or other entertainment will be
'
quieted after the candlelighting ceremony at 10:00. Thank you for your help in the fight against
cancer.
Sincerely,
Frank Fuller Julie Zemke
