Attachment: News Release CITY OF CHANHASSEN, PARK & RECREATION DEPARTMENT NEWS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE On May 8, 1995, the Chanhassen City Council approved the formation of a Parkland Acquisition and Development, Trail Construction and Open Space Preservation Task Force. The job of the task force is to investigate the merit of a special referendum to finance these proposed initiatives. Potential projects include: • Development of Bandimere Community Park. • Preservation of woodlands. • Preservation of the Bluff Creek waterway. • Acquisition of a large tract of land for the city's final community park. • Acquisition of the Bluff Creek Golf Course. • Construction of trail segments to include Highway 101 north; Powers Boulevard north; Galpin Boulevard north; Highway 41 and a portion of the Bluff Creek trail. The task force will be comprised of the following eleven members: • 2 residents; Area 1 • 2 residents; Area 2 • 2 residents; Area 3 • 1 Mayor or City Council member • 1 Chamber of Commerce representative • 1 Planning Commission member • 2 Park & Recreation Commission members 11 A voting day in the fall of 1995 is targeted. Task Force members will meet twice monthly until that time. Additional speaking engagements will also be scheduled.
