Approval of Resolution Posting "No Jake Braking" Signage by
Mn/DOT on Highway 5 - Project No. 97-6
REOUESTED ACTION
Approve the attached resolution.
DISCUSSION
The Autumn Ridge Condominium Association has been working with MnDOT to
address noise issues now that Highway 5 has been completed. As part of that
effort they have requested MnDOT post "No Jake Braking" signage, however, a
City resolution supporting the request is required before signage will be posted.
Jake braking is a method used by semi-truck drivers to slow the vehicle without
using the brakes by running exhaust back through the engine. This saves on wear
on the brakes, unfortunately, it causes a considerable amount of noise which with
the removal of the trees in the area is causing disruption to the neighborhood.
