Letters of Support for Southwest Metro Transit Grant Applications
BACKGROUND
Southwest Metro Transit is seeking funds from the federal Congestion Mitigation
Air Quality (CMAQ) grant program for several projects. In order to improve their
position in submitting applications for these funds, letters of support from their
member cities are being requested. The projects that Southwest Metro is seeking
letters of support for are:
· Purchase and installation of after-treatment (post-combustion)
technologies on Southwest Metro vehicles to reduce air pollution
emissions
· Location of a park and ride facility at the intersections of highways 101
and the new 212/312
· Purchase and installation of Automatic Vehicle Locators (AVL) and
Remote Reader Boards at park and ride locations
· Funds to expand their garage facilities
· Purchase of seven 57-passenger vehicles
· Construction of a parking ramp at the Market Boulevard park and ride
facility
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the council approve and direct the mayor to sign the
attached letters of support for Southwest Metro Transit's CMAQ grant
applications.

Dear Mr. Simich,
The purpose of this letter is to express the support of the City of Chanhassen for
the purchase and installation of after treatment (post-combustion) technologies on
Southwest Metro Transit vehicles to lower air pollution emission.
Chanhassen residents are confronted with increasing pollution to growing traffic
on area roads, particularly during the rash hours. The City supports any efforts to
reduce air pollution emissions from buses.
The City of Chanhassen strongly supports the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality
application for purchase and installation of after treatment (post-combustion)
technologies on Southwest Metro Transit vehicles to lower air pollution emission.

located at the intersection of Highway 212 and Highway 101 in Chanhassen.
Our residents are confronted with growing traffic congestion during their morning
and evening commutes on the major freeways in the Metropolitan area,
particularly on their trips to/from Minneapolis. The City supports any efforts to
reduce congestion and provide additional mobility for residents and commerce.
The City of Chanhassen strongly supports the application by the Southwest Metro
transit to use Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) funds to expand the
park & ride facility located at the intersection of Highway 212 and 101 in
Chanhassen.

Dear Mr. Simich,
The purpose of this letter is to support the funding request by Southwest Metro
Transit to expand its garage facility in Eden Prairie to house its growing fleet.
There will be a critical need in the next few years for Southwest Metro Transit to
expand its garage facility because it is experiencing ridership growth and thus has
had to expand its fleet. By expanding the garage facility, Southwest Metro
Transit will be able to better maintain vehicles thus providing safe and reliable
transit service for residents in the southwest area of the Twin Cities.
The City of Chanhassen strongly supports the application by Southwest Metro
Transit to use Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) funds to expand its
garage facility in Eden Prairie to house its fleet of vehicles.
